This book is more a novella than a novel, but no less enjoyable for it. It is the story of the first meeting between Lee Scoresby, the Texan balloonist, and Iorek Byrnison, the armoured bear. When they join forces to oppose injustice on the island of Novy Odense, it is the start of a life long friendship.
This is a beautifully made book; a small sized hardcover with a dark blue cloth cover, and comes with a ballooning board game. I haven't played the game yet, but it looks like it will be fun when we do. I think this book will make a perfect stocking filler for anyone who enjoyed "His Dark Materials".
