China's husband, McQuaid, is bored with teaching and decides to set up as a private investigator. His first client is Phoebe, the Pickle Queen, who suspects her plant manager of embezzling money. But almost as soon as she hires McQuaid, Phoebe goes missing, leaving China, Ruby and others on the planning commission for the annual Pickle Fest, in a huge pickle.
An extra complication in China's life is Amy, Ruby's daughter who is pregnant and refusing to reveal the father, and asks to move in with China.
When Phoebe turns up as a pickle herself a murder investigation with lots of suspects takes off. And although China is reluctant to investigate the matter herself, it will be down to her to safe the day.
A nice, cozy mystery with likable and realistic characters, always a pleasure to read.
