My thoughts:

“This story starts with a stick in the ground and ends with an orgy.”

I don’t know why it still surprises me. I mean, you’d think I know better after having read the first four 'Original Sinners' books. But no, Tiffany Reisz still managed to shock me within minutes after starting this book. In fact, shock may be the wrong word. It was as if she’d robbed the ground from beneath my feet. And then continued to shock me and break my heart and shock me some more. The word ‘bitch’ may or may not have been uttered a few times while reading this book...and I loved every single second of it.

I’m not going to say anything about the story in ‘The Saint’ everything you want to know is in the blurb, anything more would rob you of the cruel twists, shocking surprises and wonderful revelations only Tiffany Reisz can deliver with such eloquence.

Watching Eleanor grow up and observe her interaction with Søren was fascinating and captivating. Circumstances forced me to read this book in one day, but truth be told I don’t think I would have been able to put it down if I’d had all the time in the world. And that in itself is amazing. If you’ve read the first four ‘Original Sinners’ books chunks of Eleanor’s story will be familiar. And yet I might as well have been reading them for the first time.

This book took my heart and broke it only to put it back together again. It made me laugh out loud, hold my breath, frown, curse, smile before leaving me with tears in my eyes. I may have said this in every single review I’ve ever written for Tiffany Reisz’s books, but I’m not ashamed of repeating it again: I’m in awe of this author. I admire her way with words, her smart and natural sounding dialogue. I’m amazed at how real her world and characters have become for me. And I stare in wonder at the sex scenes. I can’t put my finger on how she does it, but Tiffany Reisz can make a scene really hot and give you all the visuals without becoming graphic. She makes situations that should make me uncomfortable almost enticing. It is a skill that amazes me.

I was hooked as soon as I was one chapter into ‘The Siren’. This is one addiction I’m hoping to never kick.

My review:

This is a review of the full story rather than instalment by instalment. A version of this review in which I discuss the five instalments individually can be found here.

It won’t come as a surprise to readers of my reviews that I’m a huge fan of Tiffany Reisz and her ‘Original Sinners’ books. I have, since I accidentally discovered ‘The Siren’, fallen in love with her world, her characters and her writing. So I grab any chance to reconnect with my favourites with both hands and don’t let go until I’ve satisfied my needs.

The Last Good Knight was a very welcome and oh so wonderful addition to the collection. The opportunity to reconnect with Nora during her pre-Siren, post-Søren years – this story is set three years before ‘The Siren’ - was enticing and more than lived up to my expectations.

The connection between Nora and the ex-Navy Seal named Lance was mesmerizing from the very first moment they meet. Lance may need to submit to Nora, he is nobody’s shrinking violet and almost a match for Nora when it comes to clever comebacks. Their scene in Nora’s dungeon on the night they meet was breathtaking.

“You have a gorgeous body, Lance. I don’t say that to everyone. Just people with gorgeous bodies.”

Of course nothing in Nora’s life is ever easy. When Lance is appointed as her bodyguard after an ex-employee of Kingsley’s is violently attacked, the job comes with a strict ‘no sex’ order. Lance being the man of honour he is has no intention of breaking his word despite the simmering heat between himself and Nora and her best efforts to make him reconsider.

“Stop being rational when I’m horny.”

Frustration and a need too deep to deny lead Nora to Søren’s house and a night of pain and ecstasy. Nora may be convinced that a future for her and her priest is impossible; she can’t deny that staying away from him is just as hard.

“You’re mine...” he whispered in her ear. “Whether you’ll admit it or not, you’re still mine.”

I adore, as I did in the first four Original Sinners’ book, the certainty Søren has that Nora will return to him, although all the signs indicate that she won’t. The bond between them is breathtakingly beautiful.

“I treasure our friendship more than anything, even more than these nights when you come back to me.”

I think this may well be the first book in which I truly felt sorry for Søren, caught between his duty to his God and his calling and the woman he loves but can’t openly acknowledge. Having said that, his confidence still managed to shock me despite the fact that I know how the story ends.

Once the attacker has been caught Lance is taken off bodyguard duty and he and Nora should be free to explore their mutual attraction. For the first time ever Nora finds herself considering putting a collar on a sub and Lance is convinced he’s found the perfect woman in Nora.

Of course life is never that easy, especially not in Nora’s universe, and it soon becomes clear that a future together would do irreparable damage to another part of Lance’s life. Both Lance and Nora have to make heartbreaking but inevitable decisions.

“My dad said that there comes a time when what you want to do is the opposite of what you need to do. And the boys do what they want to do, but the men do what they need to do.”

The two lovers who seem so well suited and were granted so little time together are left with one last, but perfect, night together.

“Such was the nature of dreams. They only feel endless in the dream. By dawn they turn to dust.”

And so the author breaks our hearts once again. And while Nora has no doubts that she will be survive and the reader already knows how her story is going to end, I still finished the books with tears in my eyes as well as a smile on my face.

What fascinates me and fills me admiration is that while I thought I knew Nora and had a pretty good idea who she is and how she works after reading the first four ‘Original Sinners’ books, Tiffany Reisz manages to surprise me with every new story about this intriguing woman. Which makes me all the more excited about the upcoming release of ‘The Saint’. Keep your eyes peeled for my review of Nora’s early years. If past experience is anything to go by I’m in for shocks and surprises, laughs and heartbreak. I can’t wait.

“Say ‘ouch’ again. You know that’s my favorite word.”
