Robert Amiss is recruited by Baroness (Jack) Troutbeck to go to Westonbury to help out David Elworthy, the newly appointed Bishop who is in danger of becoming stuck between different factions of the Church of England.
Robert soon finds that church politics and all the varying characters are causing all sorts of problems and tensions. And things aren't helped with the discovery of the corpse of one of the clergy in the cathedral.
Recruiting the help of his police officer friend and with constant interference from Jack, Robert starts an investigation but is unable to avoid more upset and death.
Fun and a very well plotted mystery with some deep stabs at church politics.
